Open-Access Policy
Leiden Academic Press
Leiden Academic Press is dedicated to the philosophy that high-quality research should be accessible to everyone, everywhere, without barriers. By removing paywalls, we aim to accelerate the pace of scientific discovery and foster global academic collaboration.
1. Gold Open-Access Model
All journals published by Leiden Academic Press operate under the Gold Open-Access model. This means:
Immediate Access: Articles are freely available on the journal’s website immediately upon publication.
Universal Reach: Anyone with an internet connection can read, download, and share the full-text version of the research.
Article Processing Charges (APC): To cover the costs of peer review, professional editing, and hosting, a one-time fee is charged to the authors, their institutions, or their funding bodies upon acceptance.
2. Licensing and Copyright
We believe authors should remain the owners of their intellectual contributions.
Author Retention: Authors retain the copyright to their work.
Creative Commons: Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0) license.
Usage Rights: This license allows others to distribute, remix, and build upon the work—even commercially—as long as they credit the original author(s).
3. Self-Archiving Policy (Green OA)
Leiden Academic Press encourages authors to archive their work to ensure long-term preservation.
Pre-print: Authors can share the original version of their manuscript (pre-peer review) at any time on servers like arXiv or bioRxiv.
Post-print: Authors are permitted to deposit the final, publisher-formatted PDF into their institutional repositories or personal websites immediately after publication.
4. Waivers and Sustainability
We are committed to inclusivity in the global research community.
Low-Income Countries: Authors based in countries classified as low-income economies by the World Bank are eligible for a 100% APC waiver.
Financial Hardship: Discretionary partial waivers are available for independent researchers or those with limited funding, evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
